Retaining Wall along Sung Canal
BEM constructed the Prachim Ratthaya Expressway Control Center (Si Rat Expressway - Bangkok Outer Ring Road) with its foundations installed in Sung Canal around Sung Canal Water Gate and ‘monkey cheeks’ flood protection line along the bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bang Sue district. Environmental impacts had been taken into consideration during its construction and after its opening on August 22, 2016. Thus, the Company implemented guidelines and measures to prevent pollution according to the standards and regulations set by the National Environmental Board and other related laws. The Company is aware of the importance of the environment for the quality of life and the environment surrounding the expressway. Therefore, the Company has outlined a new design for Sung Canal renovation to provide greater net water storage volume compared to the existing canal and a retaining wall along the canal to prevent soil erosion on the canal banks and avoid impact on the ecosystem due to the increased amount of sediment from erosion into water sources.
