“Passenger Congestion Management” Project

Governance and Economic

BEM manages passenger congestion within stations by increasing train frequency during peak hours and during events or activities take place along the MRT routes. Additionally, the Company deploys extra staff to assist and provide convenience for passengers within the station, especially in cases of exceptionally high passenger volume, to ensure safety and prevent overcrowding on the platform level. In that case, the Company will issue MRT Paper Tikets for passengers to reduce the waiting time at the ticket and support platform congestion management. The operational approach is as follows:

  • Pre-issued Tokens and Post-paid Tickets to reduce congestion and crowding in front of ticket offices at stations with exceptionally high passenger volumes.
  • Group Entry: Implementing Group Entry during periods of overcrowding that may exceed the capacity of station areas to help manage passenger access to the transit system.
  • Facilitation at the ticketing floor by stationing staff near automatic token vending machines to assist, provide information, and resolve basic system issues.
  • Platform Level Facilitation: Managing passenger queuing on the platform levels to maintain safety protocols and oraganize passenger boarding.
